Todd Whitting joins Wildcatters Baseball after 16 seasons as head coach at the University of Houston, where he built one of the most successful runs in program history. Whitting compiled 498 wins — the second-most in program history — with a .558 winning percentage, guiding the Cougars to five conference championships, four NCAA Tournament appearances and a berth in the 2014 NCAA Super Regional.A two-time ABCA Regional Coach of the Year and the 2018 American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, Whitting coached 13 All-Americans and 54 all-conference selections, and sent 49 players into the MLB Draft, including five top-five-round selections and first-round pick Seth Romero. His teams recorded 71 wins over nationally ranked opponents.

Before taking over at Houston, Whitting spent seven seasons at TCU, joining Jim Schlossnagle’s staff in 2003 and serving as associate head coach from 2005 to 2010. He was a central figure in building the Horned Frogs into a national power, landing three recruiting classes ranked in Baseball America’s top 10 and helping TCU reach its first College World Series in 2010. He began his coaching career at Houston, serving as an assistant and recruiting coordinator from 1996 to 2003 under Rayner Noble, a stretch that produced four 40-win seasons, two school-record 48-win campaigns and three NCAA Super Regional appearances in four years.

Across his career, Whitting has been part of programs that won 21 conference regular-season and tournament championships while reaching 17 NCAA Regionals, six Super Regionals and the College World Series. He has coached or signed six first-round draft picks and roughly 30 major leaguers, and has tutored more than 110 players who went on to be selected in the MLB Draft.

A Dalhart, Texas native, Whitting played second base at Houston from 1991-92 and 1994-95, with a season at Navarro College in between, and graduated from UH in 1995 with a degree in kinesiology. He and his wife Tara have five children.
