FAVORITE BASEBALL PLAYER GROWING UP: Rickey Henderson

Coach Witt is originally from Jacksonville, Florida, where he attended Bishop Kenny High School. During his senior year, he was named First Team All-American and District 3 Player of the Year by the National High School Baseball Coaches Association. Witt signed a national letter of intent to attend the University of Florida but was selected with the 28th overall pick in the first round of the 1994 Major League Baseball Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays. Witt played professionally for 15 years, including parts of five seasons in the Major Leagues with Toronto, San Diego, Detroit, and Tampa Bay. In 2006, he won the Triple-A International League MVP Award and also earned the Joe Bauman Round-Tripper Award after hitting 36 home runs. He also spent two seasons playing in Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) league with the Yokohama BayStars and Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles. Witt served as a hitting coach in the Miami Marlins organization for three years (2016–2019), working at the Triple-A, Double-A, and Single-A levels. He has been actively involved in select baseball for over 20 years, coaching players of all ages.  Witt gives private lessons with hitting, outfield and all infield positions. Witt, and his wife Lori have five children Preston, Tanner, Skyler, Cullen and Ripken.
